Hillcrest Nursing Home Foundation
History
Hillcrest Nursing Home opened in June 1963 with a mixture of 23 private and semi-private rooms. Through the years, Hillcrest has undergone several renovations and additions through the generous support of donors. The Lorene Jennings Wing in 1968, Wrightstone Wing in 1976, and the Cashen Wing in 1982 created a 99 licensed bed facility. In 1989, a spacious front living room was added.
A $1.9 million addition and renovation in 1996 increased the beds to 120, which included a new Special Care Unit for Alzheimer's residents and a Heavy Care Unit. An upgrade to the kitchen, a new activities area and sun porch were also included. In October 2000, the Hidden Pines Assisted Living community was completed with ten apartments, a 14 person occupancy. Little Folks Chilcare Center opened in September 1997 and is now licensed for 45 children. The renovated dining room was completed in 2002. Today, Hillcrest is a dual-certified Medicare/Medicaid Skilled Care facility with 140 dedicated employees.

Hillcrest Homegrown
The scholarship/tuition reimbursement programs at Hillcrest were updated in 2009 to create a new program - Hillcrest Homegrown. The foundation will provide $5,000 for students pursuing their Registered Nursing Degree and $2,000 for Licensed Practical Nurses. Funding was increased with $35,000 donated by Martin & Wanda Thompson. Prvious gifts have been received from the Andy & Geri Anderson Endowment Fund through the McCook Community Foundation and the Orvil D. Gray estate to build the fund. This generosity enables Hillcrest employees to further their education. Additional gifts are welcomed to help establish a permanent fund for staff education. We believe in "growing our own" through Hillcrest Homegrown.
New Endowment Formed
An anonymous gift of $12,500 was received at the end of 2008 to create an endowment for Hillcrest Nursing Home Foundation at the McCook Community Foundation. The earnings will be used annually by the Foundation to further the mission of "Investing in All Generations Served by Hillcrest." Additional endowment gifts can be added to this fund which will not spend its principal.
